Who we are
Nalanda College Quiz Club was firstly formed in 1982 and since then it has contributed to carving good personalities to the society by giving them knowledge and other different skills too. It has also rendered a lot of services to our Alma Mater by spreading the schools legacy throughout the community. In recent years, the Quiz club has been able to influence a lot of young minds of Nalanda College and to introduce them to quiz scenarios. We have conducted weekly lectures to give them knowledge as well as other skills like communication and teamwork. Nalanda College Quiz Club is a leader in the co-curricular and extra-curricular activities of the College. This makes a significant contribution to the development of the universal knowledge of the entire student community of the College. At the same time, the activities of our Quiz Club, directly and indirectly, contribute to the success of the school education process. Also, we have been able to perform well at competitions and our Quiz team had been able to come out among the top teams in our country.

Our way to the International quiz arena
For the very first time in a Sri Lankan School quizzing era, four students of Nalanda College Quiz Club participated in the Semi-Finals of ” Quiz Mania- Season 07, Worldwide” representing Sri Lanka, held in Kathmandu, Nepal and awarded 5th place among 25 countries. Representing Sri Lanka our students addressed the Global Youth Conclave on the topic, “Environmental Development and Sustainability” in Kathmandu, Nepal. With a lot of experience in the international quizzing arena, annually our quiz club was able to gain so many victories in the national quiz competitions.
“Esperto” inter-school quiz competition
Apart from participating in the competitions, Nalanda College Quiz Club had successfully organized the Esperto ’19 All Island Inter School Quiz competition, marking a great milestone for the Nalanda College Quiz Club for” Prof. Gunapala Malalasekara Memorial Trophy” presented by Nalanda College Quiz Club for the first time in 2019 as a tribute to one of our former principal and honourable Sri Lankan Prof. Gunapala Malalasekara for his great contribution to the country and Alma Mater and wish to continue the event as an annual activity of the Quiz Club with the prime objective of enhancing students’ general knowledge and disseminating the knowledge among the school quizzers.
Quiz De Maroons
Quiz De Maroons is the quiz competition between Ananda College and Nalanda College And also Nalanda College Quiz Club has hosted the “Quiz de Maroons”, the quiz competition between Ananda College and Nalanda College, once in two years and it was last hosted in 2019. The main purpose of Quiz De Maroons is to develop the friendship between the two schools.
Conoscenza
Conoscenza is an online individual Inner school quiz competition organized by Nalanda College Quiz Club. The first conoscenza competition was held in 2021 with 80+ participants. This competition includes 3 editions. The competition was held through Zoom, Kahoot and Quiziz platforms. The Objective of organizing the conoscenza competition is to evaluate the knowledge of the junior members of Nalanda College Quiz Club within academics as well as beyond academics and to make them familiar with the prospects of quizzes and the objectivity of the questions.
Online Lectures and weekly quizzes

COVID-19 pandemic is spread with alarming speed infecting millions and millions. However, distance is not a barrier to knowledge. With the guidance of the Principal Mr Thilak Waththuhewa and with the help of Nalanda College OBA, Teachers in charge of NCQC, past students of NCQC our quiz club started to conduct the quiz lectures through Google Classroom. Weekly quizzes are commenced after the end of the quiz lectures. These quizzes consist of several topics. Every weekly quiz has different categories. These categories are the subtopics of,
• History and Geography
• Art, Entertainment and Culture
• Science, IT and Businesses
• Sports and Games
The weekly quizzes are conducted through Google Classrooms, Kahoot and Quiziz. And all the students are ranked in this weekly quiz.
The consistent guidance and support extended by the administrative and academic staff is a key factor behind the success of these events. The Principal and the deputy principal are given special thanks for their support and guidance so far to our path of glory. The assistant principal, all the teachers of our Quiz Club and Nalanda College OBA also supported these events to the best of their abilities. The teachers in charge of the club especially involve and monitor the progress of the events. They wholeheartedly extend their support to the members at all times necessary.
